"Dead Of Summer" & The Trans Issue

So if you're not subscribed to my other blog (please do that now) then you should know that I've been watching "Pretty Little Liars" on the then "ABC Family" now "Freeform" network. I stopped watching "Pretty Little Liars" and have taken to watching Freeform's newest show, "Dead Of Summer". Now you maybe asking yourself just why in the Hell I'm watching such shows, and I wouldn't blame you at all for asking (if you are), the reason being is I'm a sucker for murder mysteries and haunted location stories, sue me. Anyways, after having watch 4 episodes of "Dead Of Summer" the 4th episode hit the nail on the head of some pretty interesting topics that me, being a Conservative would like to discuss. And we'll talk all that and more after the break;

This one is gonna take some explaining but bare with me, it'll all pan out in the end. So "Dead Of Summer" is about a summer camp that is plagued by it's history of being a site for various occult activity. The series takes places in the 80s (yes, that's vital information) and it features of a group of camp counselors plagued by their past. 2 counselors in particular I wanna talk about are Blair & Drew. Blair is a gay guy unironically played by Mark Indelicato (Justin Suarez from "Ugly Betty"...he was gay in that too...Type casting anyone) and Drew is played by (the unfortunately late Robin Williams' daughter) Zelda Williams. Now if you're a sane person and you're thinking something is rotten in Denmark, you're not losing it, Drew is in fact a guy's name and Zelda is a woman. With in the series, Drew was originally born Andrea, but as a young age she always identified as a boy and insisted on being called "Drew" instead of Andrea. All caught up? Good.

In the first episode when Blair and Drew a.k.a Andrea (I'll do that from here on out so I don't confuse you, my dear, reader. Not calling you stupid, just it'll be much harder to use names instead of Gender Pronouns) Blair expressed a hope that Drew was gay as Blair found "him" attractive. Eventually, Blair and Drew a.k.a Andrea do end up making out, please bare in mind that Blair is still under the assumption that Drew a.k.a Andrea is a Dude and a Woman. So in the 4th episode which focused on Drew a.k.a Andrea, she decided to come clean to Blair about who she was and she was immediately rejected by Blair. The episode carried a somber tone but I couldn't help by break out laughing, not because I'm a sadistic jerk...okay, not entirely, but because "Dead Of Summer" just proved the point of a very strong Conservative argument. Can you guess how?

The point being made is this: Blair is a Gay guy attracted to a woman who presents as a male, Andrea is a woman who presents as a male attracted to a guy who's attracted to men. Now the thing I know about Trans people is just because they're Trans doesn't exactly mean they're gay. After all according to what I know you can be a trans-man (woman becoming male) and still be attracted to men and vice versa BUT and that's a really huge but, the same can't be said for gay people. Blair IS Gay, the very definition of gay means that you are sexually attracted to a person who is the same sex you are. The muddling here is that Drew a.k.a Andrea DESPITE presenting and strongly identifying as a Male, can't past the male test, and when it came time to her and Blair to make it officially reality came down on her HARD and she had to accept it, SHE'S A WOMAN AND SHOCK OF ALL SHOCKS, A GAY GUY DOESN'T WANT A WOMAN!

Ewww, two Dudes making out...

The irony here being is that Blair is so gay he's straight (because he was attracted to a woman, who presented as a male but a woman nonetheless). So here's some questions: If Blair were to continue to date Drew a.k.a Andrea would they be considered a gay couple or a heterosexual couple? Since Blair acts incredibly feminine and Drew a.k.a Andrea masculine (despite being a woman) would that technically make them in a lesbian relationship? No, because Blair still identifies as Male (okay, you win this round!). You see what I'm getting at? What happens when a Trans-Woman (male becoming female) finds himself attracted to a lesbian woman? Lesbians aren't fans of the cock (obviously) and Gay guys aren't fans of poontang (obviously) so how do these intersections meet and what gives? Wish, I had an answer for you but I'm extremely amused by that despite Freeform boasting it's incredibly "inclusive" programming ("The Fosters" featuring a lesbian couple and their children, "Pretty Little Liars" which features several gay & bisexual characters, "Young & Hungry" and I haven't even watched it but I'm 100% sure there some gay stuff going on in that new series "Guilt") NOT EVEN they could answer that question without facing the reality of the situation (Andrea's a chick and a gay guy isn't into chicks.)

The safe answer would have been for Blair to agree with Andrea that she is in fact Drew and continue dating her despite the fact that he's a she and not give a damn about what people thought. That would have been The P.C. answer and the answer I was expecting. However, it would have made an open denial of Blair's obvious gayness (and then the show wouldn't have a gay character, it'd have a bisexual character). This whole thing reminds me of Chaz Bono (who's probably at home awaiting her "Man Of The Year" award after Caitlyn Jenner got her "Woman Of The Year" award, keep on waitin' Chaz! Hang in there, Home...boy?) not aware if she's dating anyone or married (Wikipedia is no help!) but if she is (and bare in mind Chaz is a lesbian {can she still identify as a lesbian despite being a male now?}) and marries a woman are they a heterosexual couple (because Chaz is a man now) or a lesbian couple?

This reminds me of "South Park" when Mr. Garrison became Ms. Garrison, his gay lover Mr. Slave wanted noting more to do with him because he liked men and Garrison was no longer a man. Then Ms. Garrison became a lesbian (but she was originally a man, he technically he's hetero now). I'm using parenthesis WAY too much in this article but you see what I'm saying. These days now I could totally identify as a woman (without changing anything about my appearance or body) and my poor wife would be in a lesbian relationship (these days anyway). Tell me, is that even logical? Look, I don't approve of homosexuality but at the very least they're consistent on what they want and what they don't and if you're a gay guy you don't want a woman and if you're a lesbian, you don't want a man, very simple! But including unidentifiable trans people or gender fluid people and all of a sudden you have no clue what kind of relationship you're in. Maybe I'm reading too much from a single episode of a TV show clearly aimed at teens but the gauntlet has been thrown down and Freeform threw it and couldn't pick it up. We'll see what happens later with it, until next time, I'm Ugo!
